This is the next installment towards our, soon to be, fully beach themed Master Bedroom.

The old lamps {we did both bedside table lamps} started to irritate me.  I love changing things around regularly, I used to buy new stuff, but since I started blogging, I found that making something from scratch or renovating an item, is way more rewarding and actually something I enjoy!

It's not that bad, but the white started to fade, also the webbing {that's what it looks like, anyway} on the inside got dirty, and no matter what I tried, I just could not get it clean.

When I bought these lamps two years ago, I was really after the thick perspex cubes and the chrome base.

Lovely, isn't it? I have the same lamp in the lounge on a side table - only difference is the shade's color is Silver, which goes with the color scheme we have there now. {I do have a HUGE thing for all see-through, clear or glass furniture, decor pieces - large and small. My coffee table is actually ALL glass - it was molded that way, the top and sides, all one piece of glass}

In a previous post, I mentioned a guy which I normally go to for the type of thing I used here. Only, this was not what he usually makes - I gave him sizes, and more or less tried to explain exactly what I wanted. I think he did a pretty good job, even though we made a very slight change. 

This guy makes and sells his stuff alongside  the road. There is a major highway on the one side and a road leading to a banking complex at the other side. I could just have bought the reeds from him, but at least by making the first step for me, I also paid him for his labor - it is an honest way of making a living, and clearly something this guy enjoys.

In the top photo is some of his work - mostly garden related, one can use the larger pieces as screens to divide your garden into sections or put them up against a garden wall. He also makes arches, which is very nice when you want to plant climbing plants.

Bottom right; I left my sizes with him and returned an hour later - here he is still busy with my little order - I should really take a picture and go show him what I did with his handiwork!

All the stuff he makes are RAW WOOD - it needs to be treated or painted or whatever it needed for the intentional end use.

This is basically what I asked him to make, only thing he did not understand was that the bottoms should not really line up and the top pieces must be cut into three or more different lengths.

I asked Roy to play around the tops a bit, and make it more uneven - after that I spray painted the two pieces, one side at a time (and into every nook and cranny) with Rust-O-Leum Spray paint {suitable for wood and metal}, white, followed with a clear sealant.

Believe it or not, the removal of the existing shades, were the hardest part of the whole project! I thought, cut it here, cut it there and it will all come to pieces, but no way - the manufacturers had to glue it all to the frame work as well.  {Broke most of my finger nails!}

We then used cable ties to fasten them to the metal wire frame {after wrapping the wooden reeds tightly around the frame} - and cut the ends off neatly.  All that was left was a quick sanding of the ends of the reeds and once that was done, we replaced the shades to the bases. Project - Done!
